The story of Abdelkrim

3 episodes

Name: The story of Abdelkrim Category: Documentary

In this three episode series “The story of Abdelkrim,” NTR presenter Karim Amghar goes in search of his history and Amazigh roots. The Moroccan Dutch author, teacher and presenter grew up in Bleiswijk, a farming village in the south of the Netherlands. His brothers, sisters and parents were all born in northern Morocco. Karim never gave much thought to his roots, except for a few moments when he was searching for his identity.

In three episodes, Karim takes viewers through the rich history of Amazigh, starting in the Netherlands. Here he speaks with different people who can tell him more about the importance of an Amazigh identity. For example, he talks to writer Sietske de Boer, language scholar Khalid Mourigh and his soccer buddies.

After the search in the Netherlands, Karim travels to Morocco. There he hopes to get closer to resistance hero El-Khattabi. Here he speaks to historians, visits important historical sites and goes in search of people who knew Abdelkrim personally; he starts a journey across Morocco in search of old friends and daughter Aicha El-Khattabi.

‘The Story of Abdelkrim’ is directed by filmmaker Abdelkarim El-Fassi, himself a son of Amazigh parents and produced by Zouka in collaboration with NTR.
